Systems

We are all systems, and we live in multiple bigger systems. We all have different parts of ourselves, “voices” in our heads, many feelings and thoughts – the whole world inside every individual. Our bodies are systems.

We exist in constant systemic dynamics. A family is a system – family of origin and the family you create yourself with your partner. A team at work is a system, and the whole business organization is a system. A football team is a system. The whole world is one huge system.

One of the most fascinating characteristics of a system is that all its elements are interconnected. A small change in any part of a system will inevitably cause the whole system to change and adapt. Pause and think about it: how powerful that is. If one member of a team starts feeling or behaving differently, the whole group responds. If one family member changes – EVERY other member of the family is affected.

This insight might help be more aware of the real or potential effects of positive or negative changes. It can also help drive change – in the whole group and each party involved. It only takes to change one (small) element, and the effect may be massive. The system always converges to balance.

What role do systems play in your life? Let’s talk. Let’s connect and exchange our views.
